Lucky Lions On Stage

Summer in the city, and lions at the Washington Memorial stage

Hung Tao Choy Mei Leadership Institute trains adults and children to work as a team in Lion Dance performance.
Two people play the lion according to the rhythms of the music. Sometimes the lions interact with Kung Fu heroes, other times the Lion consumes the lucky lettuce.
Students learn how to care for the costume and the details of stagecraft.
Performances can change at a moment's notice, and sometimes require practice with props, two-legged performers, and complex stage directions.
Working with the lion is good training that results in improved agility, endurance and situational awareness.
